The Guiding Hand of Destiny

Destiny, in my opinion, does not force one to perform an action, or say a certain thing, but instead, heavily influences its subject. Aragorn wants to stay in Rivendell, however, he knows that if he stays, he would be putting Middle Earth at risk of Sauron retrieving the One Ring, and if he leaves, he will help to reform Middle Earth and restore the glory of his people. Nothing is forcing him to leave, but he knows that he is 'destined' to help his people and the ring bearer. This is similar to real life and employment. One can choose to not search for a job for a source of income and suffer the consequences, or they can leave and get a job, which is the 'destiny' for a large majority of people. Personally I think "destiny" is just the preferred, or more beneficial option than the other, and serves as a guide, and not something that one is forced to do by fate
